Madeira 1860 Vintage Mourning Wine
This is an amazing and very rare full bottle of Madeira 1860 wine which
came from the estate of an art deco artist originally from Chicago, Illinois and
later Rothenburg, Germany. This wine was served at the wedding of Countess
Gloria von Schoenburg-Glauchau who married Prince Johannes von Thurn und
Taxis in 1981.
The wine pictured above is an 1860 of Madeira Boal (medium sweet) bottle of wine
actual Victorian Civil War era wine. It was bottled and shipped by companhia
regional de exportacao de yinhos da madeira lda. It is a 1 pint - 9fl oz wicker
covered bottle with its original cork and seal intact. The label on both the front and back
is starting to wear off but the wine itself had been stored under ideal circumstances.
Some history on Madeira wine:
During the Victorian era and even before, many folks began plans for their own
funerals quite early. Casks of madeora wine were purchased and then put away,
most often at the birth of a child. It was then brought out and opened either for
his wedding or his funeral. If it was for his wedding, whatever would be left over
would be resealed to be saved for his funeral feast.
