Optician Lachrymal Vintage Syringe #5
For your consideration:
From an outstanding private collection, this is a Victorian Lachrymal Syringe.
in its orignal oval shaped metal box.
The box is a little complicated to open, one has to take the thumb and slide to the tabs line up with the grooves.
The inside of the metal case has been stamped, supposedly with the name of the original owner: H. B. Hills.
Box Size: 7 inches long, 3 and 3/4 inches wide by 2 and 1/4 inches tall.
Condition: Very good condition with wonderful patina to the metal container.
Syringe is all metal chamber, plunger is stuck and should come loose, also there is one large needle.
This is a Lachrymal Syringe made by E. B. Meyrowitz, which was used for syinging when the canaliculi are small.
For such a procedure, it was suggested that the syringe should be short and not too large, in order that the hand holding it may be steadied by resting the fingers against the forehead of the patient and so that too much force will not be required to press the piston home, which would make it unsteady, jabbing the patient and thus causing pain.
