J.W. Bull's Cough Syrup Bottle
For your consideration:
This is a J.W. Bull's Cough Syrup Bottle from Baltimore from around the 1870s.
The bottle stands around 5 an 3/4 inches tall. It has a smooth base,
tooled top, aqua. It has the words COUGH SYRUP embossed on the front panel and
BALTIMORE on one side and J.W. BULL'S on the other side.
The bottle has some overall stain and haze spots, and some amazing wavy lines that were
made during the bottle making process, there is an open pontil on the bottom with the
number 3.
On page 159 of The American Druggist, date 1887 - it has this to say about
J.W. Bull's Cough Syrup:
1. Bull's Cough Syrup. This is said by Stearn's New Idea to be ordinary
molasses containing 1/4 to 1/2 grain of sulphate of morphine in 1 fluidounce.
This lovely bottle comes from the private collection of a longtime
collector of Apothecary Items.
