Madame Talbot's SCUD in Old Belltown

Madame Talbot's SCUD in Old Belltown

Once the war ended, the building fell into a sad state of disrepair. With its boards sagging and the paint peeling, the new owner of the building christened it The Sound View Apartments. Because of its already rather seedy reputation and its dangerous location, it then became a full-fledged flophouse. What happened during that time no one really knows as there are no recordsanywhere. We looked and could find absolutely nothing, as if the building never existed even while it did exist.

We do know that it had been in use as a sort of apartment building up until the late 1970s as we were very fortunate to have met not one but two of the building's previous tenants. They told us more about what went on inside the building during that time, and explained out how it had been horribly re-muddled. Thankfully though you could still sense the oldness and history of the building by the sturdiness of how well the building had been built out of old growth wood.

The previous tenants informed us that when they lived there, there had been not one but two murders. Now how many people actually died in that building we will never know, but we knew someone had died there because of some of the really strange activity kept reoccurring while we lived there.

They told us that the first murder happened in one of the efficiency rooms upstairs, and that they hadn’t seen the kid that lived in that apartment for at least two weeks. They had begun to wonder if he would be coming back or what, because others had expressed interest in renting his room. Only when they began to smell a sickly sweet stench emanating from his room did they finally make the grisly discovery: the kid with his hands and mouth bound in tape, his throat slit wide open and his body slumped over in his closet, blood and body fluids reeking everywhere. They mentioned that it was the worst thing they had ever smelled in their entire lives, and even though they finally got that smell out, there was a swarm of flies that never seemed to go away after that.

The second murder had happened in one of the three communal bathrooms when a woman had gone totally bezerk and went on a rampage killing her boyfriend. He was in the bathroom using the toilet when she walked in on him with a knife. He had no place to escape and died of his wounds. His friends found him wedged under the backside of the toilet, where he had tried to escape the blows of his girlfriend's knife. They claimed that blood was everywhere, but thankfully no stench and no flies as the body was found soon thereafter.
