NEEDLE GIRLS
"Needle Girls" is a name for "cutting" that was mentioned in medical books back in the
1870s. It mentions that this particular affliction is a peculiar type of self-mutilation that
is the habit sometimes seen in hysteric persons of piercing their flesh with numerous needles
and pins.
This particular exibit demonstrated the story of a woman who became discouraged for not receiving
her daily dose of opium at the hospital she was admitted to, and took it upon herself to severly
mutilate herself. At her post-mortem autopsy, this is the visual items that were plucked from out of
just her two arms.
