HANGED MAN'S MEDICINAL SKULLCAP FRAMED CURIO
"Human skull. Cranium hominis. The powder, in doses of 3j, is used in epilepsy: those which have been long buried are to be preferred; and some even limit the effect to the triangular bone called the os triquetrum." Lémery observes, "The skull of a person who has died a violent death forms a quicker and better remedy than that of a person who has died from lingering disease, or who has been taken from a cemetery, because the first contains all his spirits, while in others they have been exhausted, either by the disease or by the earth." Boyle believed that powdered human skull, applied to the skin, had permanently cured him of bleeding from the nose." - From a medical book that was published in London in 1861.
