The Progression - February 1892
"The Progression" - A Victorian Era Funeral Business Magazine.
This is Volume I, No. 12, February 1892.
PROGRESSION ~ Professor J. H Clarke, born 1840 his father being the high constable
Of Connersville Ind. Founded the Cincinnati School of embalming with Dr. C. M. Luken.
Our first volume, Irondequoit Silk Mills, manufacturers of Casket and Hearst
Trimmings. Oriental Embalming Fluid, Egyptian Chemical Company. Chicago Coffin Co.
In stock fine cloth, silk, plush, velvet and finished! Many beautiful hearse ads.
16 pages, published by National Casket Company. C. E. Foxwell, editor. This is a very interesting paper
because they are quite political and opinionated regarding Funeral Directors seceding from
the "Association" in order that they could place advertisements for their business in the public press.
This paper also is against cremation, fearing that it would greatly affect the business of undertakers.
I found the tone of this paper to be extremely negative (but definately worth reading and quite fascinating)
and it is obvious why this paper did not last. Compare this to The Casket magazine, you can tell how
professional The Casket is compared to this, which is even more interesting because they both had the same editor.
Lots of great ads, the condition of this magazine is very good to near excellent, some foxing on the back
covers and everything is solidly intact. I have many other vintage funeral magazines for sale.
