"Throughout the centuries the Gypsies have been among the most misunderstood, maligned and
rejected of men. Outcasts of the nation, they have wandered for centuries over the face of
the earth. They have no homeland, no political unity, and no recognition among the nations.
They have been alone, sundered, shunned and persecuted and banished. Until about a century ago,
their original home was a matter of dispute. Their language has been a source of puzzlement.
Their conduct and their traditions, their feeling for music and dancing and song have been
acclaimed.
Still they were not accepted. Whether wilfully or not, they remained apart from conventional
society. Here is their epic history, with its folktales and beliefs, its rites and customs.
Here is the vast treasury of the Story of the Gypsies.
This book was a gift from the legendary showman Captain Harvey Lee Boswell, who claimed that his family heritage is that of the Boswell Gypsies.
I should note that here were quite a few "King of Gypsies" whose last name was Boswell.
This book has been seriously read, and the pages have pencil underlining that was done by Boswell himself. There is some wear to it's cover but the book is solid and all pages are intact.
